Opening is Dec. 8. David Dower directs and co-wrote the script. Producing are Jonathan Reinis Inc. and Z Space Studio, in association with The Peccadillo Theater Company, which makes a year-round home of the Bank Street.
Kornbluth's past shows include Red Diaper Baby and Haiku Tunnel. Love & Taxes was developed through improvisations at The Sundance Theatre Lav, San Francisco's Z Space Studio and Arena Stage in Washington, DC. It premiered at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco in June 2003.
The play is based on Kornbluth's experiences with the IRS. The actor fell into debt after a run-in with Hollywood left him with a huge tax bill. Eventually, the monetary obligation threatened to rend asunder his love life, career and mental well-being.
Haiku Tunnel was made into a film by Sony Pictures Classical. A concert film of Red Diaper Baby is currently being prepared by the Sundance Channel.
Tickets range $25-$35. Call (212) 868-4444.
