News Joy Opens Limited Off-Broadway Engagement Feb. 2 Joy — formerly titled The Joy of Gay Sex — begins a limited engagement at the Producers Club's Grand Theatre Feb. 2.

Directed by Ben Rimalower, the romantic comedy will play through Feb. 20. The production features choreography by James DeForte and musical direction by Jeff Caldwell. The creative team also includes Wilson Chin (set design), David Kaley (costume design) and Ben Stanton (lighting design). The cast of Joy comprises Bare's Natalie Joy Johnson as Kegan, Sarah, Plain and Tall's Becca Ayers as Elsa, Ben Curtis (of "Dude, you're gettin' a Dell" fame) as Christian, Hair's Harris Doran as Paul, Naked Boys Singing's Gavin Esham as Corey, The Donkey Show's Brian Patacca as Matt/Adam, Insomnia's Christopher Sloan as Gabriel and The Producers' Sheridan Wright as Darryl. Gregory Marcel is the show's male swing.

Joy, according to production notes, is "a satirical celebration of gay life and love in San Francisco in the early nineties. It is the story of Paul, an outspoken young writer, who finds that the joy of his first love affair is disrupted by his uncompromising opinions and passionate politics. Presented as a memoir in flashback form, Joy pays homage to the films "Annie Hall" and "Manhattan," where characters often address the audience, offer personal commentary and express their innermost passions through impromptu musical standards from the Golden Age of Hollywood."

Joy will play Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM and Sunday evenings at 7 PM. There will be a special Valentine's Day performance, Feb. 14 at 7 PM. Tickets, priced at $15, are available by calling (212) 352-3101 or by visiting the Producers Club box office, 358 West 44th Street.
