The complete cast of the Broadway-bound Elaine May play, Taller Than a Dwarf, has been announced. Joining the previously-announced Matthew Broderick and Parker Posey will be Joyce Van Patten, Jerry Adler, Marcia Jean Kurtz, Cynthia Darlow, Jim Downey, Marc John Jeffries, Dajon Matthews and Greg Stuhr.
Taller Than a Dwarf will begin previews at the Longacre Theatre on March 24 for an opening on April 24. Rehearsals begin at the end of this month. Alan Arkin will direct. Julian Schlossberg is the producer.
May and Arkin recently collaborated Off-Broadway on Power Plays.
Broderick bowed on Broadway just last season in the National Actors Theatre staging of the thriller Night Must Fall. Other credits include How to Succeed..., for which he won a Tony.
Posey is one of the "it" girls of independent film, having appeared in dozens of low budget features, including "The House of Yes," "Waiting for Guffman," "The Daytrippers," "Henry Fool," "SubUrbia," "Basquiat" and "Party Girl," as well as mainstream films like "You've Got Mail." Van Patten's many credits include the recent Labor Day at Manhattan Theatre Club and Ring Round the Moon on Broadway.
According to producer Julian Schlossberg, Taller Than a Dwarf is "an average couple during the millennium learning the new rules of the American dream."
Arkin is best known for his film work (Catch 22, Simon) but his theatre credits include directing The Soft Touch in Boston in 1975 and Jules Feiffer's The White House Murder Case Off Broadway in 1970, as well as the original Sunshine Boys and Little Murders. May's plays include Adaptation, Not Enough Rope and Mr. Gogol And Mr. Preen.
