News Judas Iscariot Playwright and Cast Appear at LAB Benefit Reading Sept. 24 Father James Martin, S.J. — who served as theological advisor on The Last Days of Judas Iscariot — will enjoy a reading of his new book, "A Jesuit Off-Broadway," which is based on his experiences with Iscariot playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis and that show's cast members.

Loyola Press published Martin's new book "A Jesuit Off-Broadway," which is currently available in hardcover. Guirgis provided the book's foreword.

Martin and Guirgis will be joined by fellow LAByrinth Theater Company members for the Sept. 24 reading at 7 PM followed by a reception and book signing at The Public Theater (located at 425 Lafayette Street). Proceeds from the sold-out event will benefit LAB.

"What happens when theatre and theology share the stage?" poses book notes. "Discover the answer as you take a front row seat to Fr. Martin's experience as theological advisor to the cast of LAByrinth Theater Company's The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. While Martin offers answers to some of life's biggest questions, he learns lessons about the theatre — and finds out that the sacred and the secular aren't always that far apart."

LAB presented the world premiere of Guirgis' The Last Days of Judas Iscariot Off-Broadway at The Public Feb. 8-April 3 with a cast led by Sam Rockwell and Eric Bogosian. Philip Seymour Hoffman directed the work, which also featured Stephen McKinley Henderson, Liza Colón-Zayas, John Ortiz, Jeffrey DeMunn, Yetta Gottesman, Craig "muMs" Grant, Sal Inzerillo, Adrian Martinez, Deborah Rush, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Kohl Sudduth, Callie Thorne and Yul Vazquez.
