According to Variety, Sascha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Lee, Ray Winstone, Helen McCrory and Chloe Moretz will also appear in the film, which began shooting June 29 in London and is set for a Dec. 9, 2011, release by Sony.

Asa Butterfield will star as the title character, a 12-year-old boy who lives in a train station and must continue his late father's efforts to solve the mystery of a broken robot.

The film will be the first Scorsese has directed to be released in 3D. Screenwriter Logan, who adapted the screenplay from Brian Selznick's children's book of the same name, is a 2010 Tony Award winner for his play Red. His screenplays include "Sweeney Todd" and "The Aviator."

Law, a 2010 Tony nominee for Hamlet and a 1995 Tony nominee for Indiscretions, also appeared in Dr. Faustus, 'Tis Pity She’s a Whore and Death of a Salesman in England.

Griffiths and de la Tour, both 2006 Tony winners for their work in The History Boys (Griffiths won an Olivier Award for the play in London), recently appeared together at the Royal National Theatre in A Habit in Art. Scorsese will co-produce the film with "Sweeney Todd" star Johnny Depp and Graham King and Tim Headington of GK Films.
