News Judy Speaks at the Ars Nova, July 10-Aug. 28 A new play inspired by the recent release of Judy Garland's "journal" tapes will play the Ars Nova Theater beginning July 10.

Written by and starring Mary Birdsong, Judy Speaks concerns the period in Judy Garland's life when the late entertainer was trying to record the makings of her autobiography. The production, which runs through Aug. 28, also features Birdsong's renditions of several Garland classics. Gregory Wolfe, artistic director and founding member of Moonwork Theater Company, directs Judy Speaks. The remainder of the creative team comprises Andrew Baseman (set design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design) and Michael Clark (projection design).

Mary Birdsong was last on the New York stage in Elaine May's Adult Entertainment. She performed her one-woman shows, The Very Mary Birdsong Show and The Respectable Race, in Los Angeles and New York, and her many television credits include "Ed," "The Daily Show," "Welcome to New York," "Normal People," "Talk to Me," "Viva Variety" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien."

Judy Speaks will play the Ars Nova Theater Monday through Thursday evenings at 8 PM. All tickets are priced at $20 and are available by calling (212) 868-4444. The Ars Nova Theater is located in Manhattan at 511 West 54th Street.
