Moore (The Vertical Hour) is tapped to play Margaret White, an overly-protective, religiously devout mother whose bullied teenage daughter discovers she has telekinetic powers. Chloe Moretz will play Carrie, with Gabriella Wilde as fellow student Sue Snell.

Kimberly Peirce will direct the film, which has a script by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (American Psycho, Spider-Man, "Glee"). It marks the third time King's novel has been adapted for film. A 2002 version featured Angela Bettis and Patricia Clarkson.

Brian DePalma directed the iconic original 1976 film, which starred Sissy Spacek in the title role, with Piper Laurie as her mother, Margaret. Amy Irving portrayed Snell in the original, with Tony winner Betty Buckley as gym teacher Miss Collins. Buckley later played Margaret White in the infamous 1988 Broadway musical of the property.
