PlayBlog Julie Andrews Reminds Us "Mother Knows Best" In "Despicable Me" (Video) Beloved stage and screen star Julie Andrews lends her voice to Universal's 3D computer-animated comedy, "Despicable Me," which opens July 9.

In this promotional featurette, we see Andrews (beloved for Broadway's Victor/Victoria, Camelot and My Fair Lady, as well as "The Sound of Music" and "Mary Poppins") recording some of her dialogue as the mother of Gru (voice of Steve Carell), a would-be “supervillain” who plots to steal the moon but is derailed by the unexpected appearance of three young girls in his life. Andrews also dispenses some motherly advice. Mother knows best, even if she is as disapproving and un-maternal as Gru’s mom. Right?
