News Juliet Stevenson Will Head Cast of Royal Court's Premiere of Richard Bean's The Heretic Juliet Stevenson will play Dr. Diane Cassell, a lead academic in Earth Sciences at a University where she is at odds with the orthodoxy over man-made climate change, in Richard Bean's new play The Heretic.

It begins performances at London's Royal Court Theatre Feb. 4, 2011, prior to an official opening Feb. 10, for a run through March 19, in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs.

Also in the cast are James Fleet, Johnny Flynn, Adrian Hood, Leah Whitaker and Lydia Wilson. The play is directed by Jeremy Herrin, with designs by Peter McKintosh, lighting by Paul Pyant and sound by Emma Laxton.

Described in press materials as a black comedy, the play tackles the divisive issue of climate change, questioning what we think we know and whether the science really is settled.

Stevenson has previously appeared at the Royal Court in Alice Trilogy, The Country, Death and the Maiden (for which she won the Laurence Olivier Best Actress Award) and Other Worlds. She was most recently seen onstage in Duet for One at the Almeida Theatre, subsequently transferring to the West End's Vaudeville Theatre. Her film credits include "And When Did You Last See Your Father?," "Being Julia," "Bend it Like Beckham" and "Truly, Madly, Deeply," for which she won the Evening Standard Film Award for Best Actress.

James Fleet's recent stage credits include The Observer at the National Theatre, Twelfth Night at the RSC and Cloud Nine at the Almeida. On screen, his credits include "Little Dorrit," "The Vicar of Dibley" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral." Flynn has appeared onstage with the Propeller project, and is also a singer/songwriter whose album "Been Listening" has just been released.

Hood last appeared at the Royal Court in Richard Bean's Harvest. His other theatre credits include Bean's Pub Quiz is Life for Hull Truck and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at the National Theatre and in the West End.

Whitaker last appeared at the Royal Court in Richard Bean's Harvest. Previous credits include Counted for Look Left Look Right and Sky Scraper for Old Vic and Public Theater New York.

Wilson's stage credits include Blasted (Lyric Hammersmith) and Pains of Youth (National Theatre).

Bean's previous plays at the Royal Court include Toast, Honeymoon Suite, Under the Whaleback and Harvest. His recent work elsewhere includes The Big Fellah for Out of Joint at the Lyric Hammersmith, England People Very Nice at the National Theatre, The English Game on tour and In the Club at Hampstead Theatre.
