Joel Ferrell will stage Foote's final Broadway work that will officially open March 18 for a run through April 9. The production is presented as part of Dallas' citywide Horton Foote Festival, which runs March 14-May 1.
Squibb, who appeared as Electra in the original production of Gypsy with Ethel Merman, will lead a cast that also includes Nance Williamson as Mary Jo, Kurt Rhoads as Lewis, Gail Cronauer as Lucille, Akin Babatunde as Doug, Lynn Blackburn as Paulene, Katherine Bourne as Irene Ratliff, Kieran Connolly as Bob, Matthew Gray as Son, Emily Habeck as Emily, Liz Mikel as Mildred, and Tiffany Mann and Kristin Frantz alternating as Sissie.
The design team includes scenic designer John Arnone, costume designer Claudia Stevens, lighting designer Matthew Richards and sound designer Bruce Richardson.
DTC describes the work as "a clear-eyed, witty portrayal of a family slow to surrender its sense of entitlement—and quick to start a feeding frenzy when the matriarch passes on."
Dividing the Estate played an Off-Broadway run at Primary Stages in 2007 prior to arriving on Broadway Oct. 23, 2008, for a limited engagement at the Booth Theatre through Jan. 4, 2009. It was Tony-nominated for Best Play. Lincoln Center and Primary Stages co-produced the Broadway run. The entire original Broadway company (with the exception of Elizabeth Ashley) reunited for a brief run at Hartford Stage in the summer of 2009. A Pulitzer Prize winner for The Young Man from Atlanta, Foote's plays include The Carpetbagger's Children, The Trip to Bountiful, The Traveling Lady, The Chase, The Last of the Thorntons and Talking Pictures, among others. The 92-year-old Foote had been in Hartford, CT, where he was putting the finishing touches on Orphans' Home Cycle, when he died in March 2009. The Orphans' Home Cycle premiered at Hartford Stage prior to its Off-Broadway arrival in the fall of 2009.
