The play by Pulitzer finalist Ruhl, directed by Obie Award winner Anne Bogart, will run Feb. 8-March 16, 2008. In it, according to the Off-Broadway not-for-profit dedicated to contemporary writers, "Gordon is dead, but his cell phone lives on. When Jean, an empathetic museum worker, answers his ringing phone beside her in a café, she is soon playing unwitting comforter and confessor to the man's grieving friends and family. Before she knows it, Jean is ensnarled in the underbelly of the dead man's bizarre life. A wildly imaginative new comedy, Dead Man's Cell Phone is the odyssey of a woman forced to confront her assumptions about morality, redemption, and the need to connect in a technologically-obsessed world."

Chalfant is the lauded American actress who appeared in Broadway's Racing Demon and both parts of Angels in America (she was a 1993 Tony Award nominee for Millennium Approaches), Off-Broadway's Wit (for which she won the Best Actress Drama Desk Award),Nine Armenians, Spalding Gray: Stories Left to Tell, Five by Tenn, Talking Heads, Twelve Dreams and more.

Chalfant will also star in the New York premiere of A Hard Heart, which will kick off the seventh season of the newly renamed Epic Theatre Ensemble Oct. 30 at the Clurman Theatre.

Dead Man's Cell Phone had its world premiere earlier this year at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, DC.
