News Katie Holmes Will Make Directorial Debut and Star in "All We Had," About a Mother Who Sacrifices Everything Katie Holmes, who optioned first-time author Annie Weatherwax's novel "All We Had" in July, will make the adaptation her directorial debut, according to Deadline.com.

Jane Rosenthal will produce alongside VP Production Berry Welsh and Holmes, who was last seen on Broadway in Dead Accounts and will also star in "All We Had."  

Director Josh Boone will adapt "All We Had," which hit shelves Aug. 5, for the screen. 

The story centers on a mother and daughter who have nothing in their lives except each other. The mother sacrifices all for her daughter's chance to get accepted into a great East Coast college.

Holmes has also been seen on Broadway in All My Sons.
