Mark Medoff’s Tony Award-winning play Children of a Lesser God will get its first New York revival March 14-April 9 at the hands of Off-Broadway's the Keen Company.

Blake Lawrence will direct Alexandria Wailes and Jeffry Denman in the drama about the romance between a speech therapist and a deaf woman who works in the school where he teaches.

Wailes was seen in Deaf West's Broadway production of Big River. Denman recently starred in White Christmas in Los Angeles. Rounding out the cast are Ian Blackman, Guthrie Nutter, Lee Roy Rogers (Orson's Shadow), Tami Lee Santimyer and Makela Spielman.

Opening night is March 18.

Children of a Lesser God was a huge hit on Broadway. Opening on March 30, 1980, it ran for 887 performances. It was a Tony Award for Best Play. Its two stars, John Rubinstein and Phyllis Frelich also won Tonys. (Ironically, Frelich and Wailes acted together in Big River on Broadway.)

The play was made into a successful 1986 film starring William Hurt and Marlee Matlin. The design team includes Nathan Heverin (sets), Josh Bradford (lights) and Theresa Squire (costumes).

Tickets are $19 and are available by calling SmartTix at (212) 868-4444 or online at www.smarttix.com.
