News Ken Rus Schmoll to Navigate Erin Courtney's A Map of Virtue for 13P Ken Rus Schmoll (Middletown) will stage the world premiere of Erin Courtney's A Map of Virtue in February as the penultimate production of the playwrights collective 13P.

The Obie-winning playwrights collective, established in 2003, was conceived to offer playwrights the chance to produce their own fully staged productions as an alternative to the standard practice of developmental readings. Each playwright rotates as artistic director of the company during the dates of production for his or her respective play. Once all of the assembled playwrights in 13P have had their works staged, the group will disband.

Following Courtney's A Map of Virtue, 13P will produce the world premiere of a new work by Tony-nominated playwright Sarah Ruhl (Eurydice, In the Next Room...) as its final production this summer.

A Map of Virtue will run Feb. 6-26 at the 4th Street Theatre. It officially opens Feb. 12.

Here's how the play is billed: "In A Map of Virtue, two strangers meet at a diner and a swarm of birds descends. The woman builds her art career around a bird statue that the man leaves behind. He slashes her painting and they become friends. This begins a series of random and violent events that echo the strangeness of their first meeting. A small bird statue guides us through this symmetrical story about the limits of our virtues and what we leave behind."

The cast will include Birgit Huppuch (Telephone), Alex Draper (Gary the Thief), Jesse Lenat (Current Nobody), Annie McNamara (Gatz, That Pretty Pretty; or, The Rape Play), Hubert Point-Du Jour (The Really Big Once), Jon Norman Schneider (The Dumb Waiter) and Maria Striar (Hello Failure). Designing A Map of Virtue are Marsha Ginsberg (set and costume design), Tyler Micoleau (lighting design) and Daniel Kluger (sound and music design).

Courtney also collaborated with Tony nominee Elizabeth Swados on Kaasper Hauser. Her plays include Honey Drop, Alice the Magnet, Demon Baby, Quiver and Twitch and Black Cat Lost. She is at work on the new play Service Road.

The playwrights in 13P also include Sheila Callaghan, Madeleine George, Rob Handel, Ann Marie Healy, Julia Jarcho, Young Jean Lee, Winter Miller, Kate E. Ryan, Lucy Thurber, Anne Washburn and Gary Winter.
