News Kevin Massey to Sub for Claybourne Elder in Pippin at KC Rep Kevin Massey will step in for Claybourne Elder in the Kansas City Repertory Theatre's production of Pippin for three performances beginning Sept. 29.

Elder (Bonnie and Clyde, Road Show) stars in the title role of the Stephen Schwartz musical that began performances Sept. 14. He will be absent from the production for three performances due to a prior commitment, according to representatives for the production. Massey (Memphis, Tarzan) will appear during the 2 PM and 8 PM performances on Sept. 29 and at 2 PM on Sept. 30.

Pippin officially opens Sept. 21 for a run through Oct. 7. Eric Rosen directs the musical that has a score by Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson. KC Rep's production promises "new visual and musical twists to a musical theatre classic."

Pippin also features Tony Award nominee Mary Testa (Queen of the Mist, Xanadu) as Berthe, Smith (American Idiot, Godspell, Hair) as the Leading Player and Katie Gilchrist (regional premiere of Everyday Rapture) as Catherine.

The cast is completed by John Hickok (Parade, Aida) as Charles, Sam Cordes as Lewis, Katie Kalahurka (A Christmas Story, the Musical!) as Fastrada, Jennie Greenberry (A Christmas Story, the Musical!) in the female ensemble and Gil Perez-Abraham Jr. (A Steady Rain) in the male ensemble.

Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark choreographer Chase Brock choreographs Pippin. The creative team also includes musical director Curtis Moore (Bridge Project's Richard III), Jack Magaw (scenic design), Alison Heryer (costume design), Jason Lyons (lighting design) and Zachary Williamson (sound design).
