Variety reports that Oscar and Tony winner Kevin Spacey is tapped to play late, prolific American writer Gore Vidal in a new Netflix original biopic. The film is currently shooting in Italy, where Vidal spent many years of his life.
Writer Vidal passed away in 2012 at age 86. In addition to publishing 25 novels, writing several plays, two memoirs and volumes of essays, Vidal dabbled in acting and ran twice for office, losing both times.
Vidal’s play The Best Man was revived on Broadway in the spring of 2012, just a few months before his death. The production was nominated for two Tony Awards, including Best Revival and Best Actor in a Play (James Earl Jones). Angela Lansbury starred in the production alongside Jones.
Spacey was recently in New York to host the 2017 Tony Awards and starred in a limited engagement of the monologue play, Clarence Darrow. On screen, he can currently be seen as Francis Underwood in the hit Netflix series House of Cards.
