Halloween on Broadway   Kids Will Be in Costume for Special Halloween Kids' Night on Broadway; Theatre District Party Planned

Kids dressed as the witches from Wicked will likely be popular at the special Halloween "Kids' Night On Broadway," which includes a theatre-district party and discounts on Broadway shows Oct. 31.

Tickets to participating shows for the fall Kids' Night on Broadway (KidsNightonBroadway.com) are currently on sale.

The popular Kids' Nights allow kids ages 6 to 18 to see Broadway shows for free when accompanied by a full-paying adult. A Kids' Night on Broadway ticket includes pre-theatre parties, restaurant discounts, parking discounts, special kids' souvenir program provided by Playbill and Theatre Development Fund, and more.

A special pre-theatre Halloween party 11 AM-2 PM Oct. 31 will take place at Madame Tussauds New York in the theatre district. Kids' Night ticket holders will experience unique theatre activities as well as the famous waxworks attraction for free. Expect Broadway costume events. More detailed information will be announced.

"Look for little Elphabas, Addams Family kids, Billys and ballerinas, Simbas, plus more during our first Kids' Night on Broadway spook-tacular," said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League. "We're looking forward to seeing how Broadway characters inspire kids who love Broadway during Halloween, and all year long."

The Halloween Kids' Night on Broadway will salute UNICEF and the 60th anniversary of the organization's Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program, which, since its inception, has raised nearly $160 million for UNICEF's lifesaving programs worldwide. For more information about its programs, visit www.unicefusa.org. "Manhattan is one of the few cities where the offerings for Halloween entertainment for adults far outweigh the offerings for families," said Philip S. Birsh, President and Publisher of Playbill. "We wanted to be a part of bringing a great Halloween event to the city, filled with trick-or-treating, fun events, costumes and most of all — theatre. What better way to do this then by joining forces with the Broadway League to present this special Kids' Night on Broadway Halloween event? We're also thrilled to be using this event to raise awareness for UNICEF's 60th anniversary of their Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF initiative. Almost everyone remembers going from house to house as a kid, collecting change for UNICEF along with their candy. It's a longstanding tradition, and we're excited that UNICEF will be a part of this event."

Participating shows (to date) include Broadway's The Addams Family; American Idiot; Billy Elliot; Chicago; Fela!, La Cage aux Folles; The Lion King, Lombardi; Mary Poppins; Memphis; Memphis; Next to Normal; Promises, Promises; Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles; Wicked; Off-Broadway's ImaginOcean; Stomp and The 39 Steps. This list is subject to change, and some shows not available for all performances.
