The film, written and directed by Headland, is based on the Off-Broadway play of the same name, which was presented in summer 2010 as part of Second Stage Theatre's Uptown Series. Bachelorette's run was extended twice and played through Aug. 28, 2010, at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre.
The story follows three best friends who are invited to act as bridesmaids at the wedding of a girl they called “Pigface” in high school. Here's how Second Stage billed the play: "On the eve of her wedding, Becky has arranged the perfect bachelorette celebration — but after two party crashers, one manipulative maid of honor, and a bathtub of booze, things don't go according to plan."
Headland's playwriting credits include the "Seven Deadly Plays," which explores "ancient vices in an unfortunately modern generation." The series includes Cinephilia (lust), Bachelorette (gluttony), Assistance (greed), Surfer Girl (sloth) and Reverb (wrath).
Produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, "Bachelorette" will be shot in New York.
