Folger Theatre in Washington D.C. will continue its 2017–2018 season in January with Theresa Rebeck’s physical comedy The Way of the World. Also directed by Rebeck, the production will star Tony nominee Kristine Nielsen, recently seen on Broadway in the revival of Noël Coward’s Present Laughter.
The Way of the World is part of the second season of The Women’s Voices Theater Festival highlighting new works by female artists. The play is set to run January 9–February 11, 2018.
In Rebeck’s Hamptons-set comedy, heiress Mae and her aunt Rene become the subject of a scandal sparked by Mae’s womanizing boyfriend Henry. The play is adapted from William Congreve’s Restoration comedy of the same name, with Nielsen tapped to play the ever-watchful Rene.
The Way of the World will also star Eliza Huberth as Mae and Luigi Sottile as Henry. Rounding out the cast are Brandon Espinoza, Elan Zafir, Erica Dorfler, Ashley Austin Morris, and Daniel Morgan Shelley.
The Way of the World had its premiere at the Dorset Theatre Festival in Vermont in 2016.
Tickets can be purchased at the Folger Theatre Box Office by calling (202) 544-7077 or online at Folger.edu.
Rebeck’s play of gender politics What We're Up Against is currently running Off-Broadway in a production from WP Theater.
