Classic Arts News Kronos Quartet Makes Billboard Classical Chart With G‹recki's String Quartet No. 3 The Kronos Quartet's latest recording, of Henryk G‹recki's String Quartet No. 3, was the new entrant on last week's Billboard classical chart, landing at no. 6. The work, subtitled ... songs are sung, has five movements and fills the entire CD.
Four titles re-entered last week's chart: Evgeny Kissin Plays Chopin: The Verbier Festival Recital (no. 20); Bedtime Beats: The Secret to Sleep (no. 21), a disc marketed as a scientifically based treatment for insomnia; Janine Jansen's recording of Mendelssohn and Bruch violin concertos with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (no. 23); and Angel Voices by the London boys' choir Libera (no. 24).

Yo-Yo Ma's Appassionato remained in the top spot, followed by Sting's John Dowland CD Songs From the Labyrinth and his DVD/CD set The Journey and the Labyrinth: The Music of John Dowland. Joshua Bell's Voice of the Violin remained at no. 4, with Yundi Li's disc of Chopin and Liszt piano concertos in fifth place.

A DG release of excerpts from La traviata performed by Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villaz‹n, which arrived on the chart two weeks ago at no. 24, rose last week to no. 12. Meanwhile, Jubilation, a new Angel/EMI title featuring baritone Jubilant Sykes and guitarist Christopher Parkening which entered the chart two weeks ago at no. 16, remained in the same spot.
