News Kuhn, Rubin-Vega, Yazbek Among Concerts Added at Joe's Pub Judy Kuhn's string of October concerts and May shows from Daphne Rubin-Vega, David Yazbek, Elizabeth Swados and Michael Winther have been scheduled for Joe's Pub.

Kuhn, a three-time Tony nominee, returns to Joe's Pub in a show called Serious Playground: The Songs of Laura Nyro, which will go up Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 22. Backed by an eight-piece band, Kuhn will be promoting the release of her new CD focusing on the songs of Nyro, the singer-songwriter of the 1960s and 70s. The show, which debuted at Lincoln Center's American Songbook Series in January, includes several of Nyro's biggest hits, such as "Stoned Soul Picnic" and "Stoney End," as well as some lesser-known songs.

Rubin-Vega, currently starring next door at the Public Theater in Jack Goes Boating for the LAByrinth Theater Company, will return to Joe's Pub for a performance on May 4, in addition to the previously announced April 9.

The songwriter David Yazbek (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Full Monty) will perform his songs, backed by a band, on May 10.

Political Subversities, a new political theatre piece directed by the famed downtown dramatist Elizabeth Swados (Runaways, among other works) will go up May 19. According to the Joe's Pub website, the piece consists "of songs, scenes and monologues" that "portray the absurdity of our world as it is now as well as the scandalous and outrageously stupid behavior of the people who inhabit it."

Musical theatre actor Michael Winther (Mamma Mia, 1776, Songs From An Unmade Bed) is performing May 20 with the jazz pianist Dan Tepfer. In addition, Kiki and Herb will end their current string of weekly Sunday night shows at the end of May.

As previously announced for Joe's Pub, Jesse Tyler Ferguson will perform with Lea Delaria on April 10, Jackie Hoffman will play her final Jackie With A Z shows on April 8 and April 15 and the musical The Hidden Sky gets a semi-staged concert version starring Manoel Felciano on May 14.

Kuhn received Tony nominations for Les Miserables (original Cosette), Chess and She Loves Me. She is the singing voice of Disney's "Pocahontas" and co-starred in the upcoming film "The Day on Fire," for which she also performed the soundtrack.

Daphne Rubin-Vega has appeared on Broadway in the current revival of Les Miserables, and earned Tony Award nominations for her performances in the Pulitzer Prize-winning shows Anna in the Tropics and Rent. Rubin-Vega also appeared in Broadway's The Rocky Horror Show, and her Off-Broadway credits include Everythings Turning Into Beautiful, Bernarda Alba, Fucking A, Gum and Two Sisters and a Piano. On screen she has been seen in "Wild Things," "Flawless" and "Skeleton Woman." Her previous solo recording, "Rocket Man," is available from Emerge Records.
