San Diego's La Jolla Playhouse will open their production of Joe Orton's comedy Loot June 13 for a run through July 11. Playhouse Associate Artistic Director Neel Keller (Light Up the Sky) directs.
The loot of the farce's title is a stash of cash acquired in a bank robbery by friends Hal and Dennis. In order to protect himself from a snooping detective, Hal plots the perfect hiding place for his ill-gotten gains -- his mother's coffin. Orton is best known for his farcical comedies, Entertaining Mr. Sloane and What the Butler Saw, and for being murdered in 1967 by his lover at the height of his career.
Tony Award nominee Tom McGowan (La Bete) is featured as Truscott, the detective. McGowan recently performed the role of Amos in Broadway's Chicago and opposite Kevin Kline in Ivanov. Also in the cast are Fiona Gallagher (Fay), Trey Lyford (Meadows), Nicholas Marcq (Dennis), Matt McGrath (Hal) and Nick Ullett (McLeavy).
Tickets are $39-$19 and available by calling the La Jolla Playhouse box office at (619) 550-1010. La Jolla Playhouse is located on the web http://www.lajollaplayhouse.com.
