On September 19, La MaMa will host a gala celebration in honor of Spiderwoman Theater’s 40th anniversary. The longest-running Native American theatre company in the world, Spiderwoman Theater presents feminist works led by Artistic Director Muriel Miguel. The benefit, titled Lu! Lu! Lu!Lu!, An Evening Celebrating Spiderwoman Theater’s 40 Years, honors the company’s contributions to Native, feminist, and avant-garde theatre.
The evening will feature performances and presentations by Pulitzer Prize finalist Taylor Mac, noted actor/singer/composer Soni Moreno, La MaMa Safe Harbors Indigenous Collective director Murielle Borst-Tarrant, Kevin Tarrant and the SilverCloud Singers, and more. The after-party boasts a set by electronic group A Tribe Called Red.
