After more than 10 years as a cinema hall, the Lope de Vega Theatre in Madrid has been thoroughly renovated in order to become a theatre devoted to musical theatre and dance. The play chosen for this new season is "El Hombre de La Mancha", the world-wide known musical, based on the novel by the immortal Miguel de Cervantes, now presented in Madrid in its Spanish version. Cast members are Paloma San Basilio (Evita) in the role of Dulcinea and Jose Sacristan as Don Quijote, under the stage direction of Mario Gas (Sweeney Todd, Golfus of Rome).
The play is produced by Luis Ramirez, the manager of Pigmalion, a theatre firm that has proposed to make Gran Via Street in Madrid look like Broadway or the West End. The play's premiere will take place on 4 November, and, although we do not know yet who all the cast members are going to be, it is said that Carlos Marin, who became famous for his role of Marius in Les Miserables, will be the cover for Jose Sacristan.
"El Hombre de La Mancha" runs at the Lope de Vega Theatre, 57 Gran Via Street Madrid. Tickets are available at "El Corte Ingles" centres and : 902400222 (only from Spain). For Information and group discounts: 34 1 5484000
