The Purple Rose Theatre Company of Chelsea, MI, founded by well known screen actor Jeff Daniels, premieres Kim Carney's new play Labor Day running Jan. 24-Mar. 8.
The play takes place over the holiday weekend, at a vacation spot on the Muskegon River. While one married couple searches for the missing key to their happiness, another unmarried vacationing couple also encounter problems in their relationship. Through a mysterious woman who visits them throughout their trip, the couples are able to see each other more lovingly and embrace a future filled with intimacy.
Labor Day is the third original script Carney has written for the Purple Rose. She has had many of her plays produced in Michigan Theatres, including the Boarshead in Lansing and the University of Detroit's Theatre Company.
The show is directed by Purple Rose guest artist, Suzi Regan, who also did the sound design for the play. Labor Day features Michigan actors Terry Heck, Jim Porterfield, Guy Sanville , Tricia Smith, and Chicago Actor Cheryl Leigh Williams.
