Variety reports that LaBute has been signed to direct two films for Screen Gems including a remake of "Death at a Funeral." In addition to his work as a prolific playwright, LaBute has directed several films, including "Lakeview Terrace," "Nurse Betty" and his own works "The Shape of Things" and "Your Friends & Neighbors."

Actor Chris Rock, who appeared in "Nurse Betty," will reportedly join LaBute for the remake of the 2007 British film "Death at a Funeral." Also on LaBute's plate will be a new romantic comedy penned by Nina Coleman entitled "Here Comes the Sun."

LaBute's plays include The Mercy Seat, The Distance From Here, Fat Pig, In a Dark Dark House, Autobahn, bash: latter-day plays, The Shape of Things, and the films "In the Company of Men," "Possession" and "Wicker Man."
