News LAByrinth Theatre Company Workskops Project at Public, Feb. 18-29 The LAByrinth Theatre Company next takes on the Brothers Grimm as it presents The Fairy Tale Project by Webb Wilcoxen at The Public Theater, Feb. 18-29.

Slated for a Feb. 21 opening night, the new developing work — featuring original music by Wilcoxen and Daniel Harnett — will be directed by Jill DeArmon.

"Both original and familiar fables are twisted together with haunting lullabies, macabre nursery rhymes and hopeful dreams of light," according to the show's press materials.

The cast includes Maggie Bofill, Elizabeth Canavan, Scott Hudson, Russell G. Jones, Jinn S. Kim and Trisha LaFache. The design team of The Fairy Tale Project features Adrian W. Jones (scenic), Sarah Beers (costume), Sarah Sidman (lighting) and Jane Shaw (sound).

THE LAByrinth Theater Company began in 1992 when 13 actors joined forces to form a place to work. The goal was to create a home where the group, for three hours each week, could engage in a variety of theatrical exercises designed to "push each others' limits and bind together into a tight-knit, uninhibited and impassioned ensemble - one in which each member is given the opportunity and support, not just to act, but to write, direct, produce, sweep, paint, hang lights, etc."

The company, headed up by Philip Seymour Hoffman (Long Day's Journey Into Night) and John Ortiz (Anna in the Tropics), is in residence at the Public Theater for the 2003-04 season. The troupe is best known for its stagings of Stephen Adly Guirgis' works Jesus Hopped the A Train and Our Lady of 121st Street — which recently enjoyed a commercial run at the Union Square Theatre.
