Off-Broadway’s 13th annual Rebel Verses Youth Arts Festival welcomes a parade of Broadway stars who will work with young writers and performers on performances scheduled July 27 through August 5 at Vineyard Theatre in Manhattan.
The event, which brings together student ensembles from all five boroughs of New York City, plus Jersey City and Pittsburgh, will unleash the youngsters’ creativity in daytime workshops with the stars. The goal is to develop the students’ skills in a wide range of performing arts disciplines. Student theatre ensembles will perform their original pieces in the evenings, with that day’s guest star as the closing act.
Here is the star lineup for this year’s Rebel Verses:
July 27: Daphne Rubin-Vega, who created the role of Mimi in Rent
July 28: Recording artist and percussionist Okai
July 29: Actor and singer-songwriter Diana Oh
August 3: Actor and Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Eric Bogosian (Talk Radio, subUrbia)
August 4: Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actor LaChanze (The Color Purple, Once on This Island)
August 5: Poet and performer muMs the Schemer (HBO’s Def Poetry, Oz)
Vineyard is co-sponsoring the event this year with founder Developing Artists.
