News Lady Liberty Musical Opens Off-Broadway The family-friendly show, Liberty: A Monumental New Musical, opens at 42West.

Liberty: A Monumental New Musical, a pop-infused musical detailing the story of Lady Liberty’s arrival in the U.S.A., officially opens Off-Broadway July 4, following previews that began June 6.

The family-friendly show is playing at 42West, starring Abigail Shapiro as the title character.

The new musical, which played a 12-week run at Theatre 80 last year, features a book and lyrics by Dana Leslie Goldstein, music by Jon Goldstein and direction by Evan Pappas. Based on true events, it tells the story of a young French immigrant who arrives in New York Harbor in 1884 and struggles to gain acceptance.

Liberty: A Monumental New Musical is produced by Theresa Wozunk, Michelle Shapiro and Tim Harper.
