Adapted and directed by acclaimed Russian director Kama Ginkas, Lady with a Lapdog will play through Oct. 10 at the Minneapolis theatre. The official opening night is set for Sept. 22. The four-person company features Stephen Pelinski as Dmitry Gurov, Monica West as Anna Sergeyevna and Trey Burvant and Robert Olinger as the Gentleman Sunbathers. Lady with a Lapdog, according to production notes, concerns the tale of Dmitry Gurov, who "married young and has three children, a solid life, position and status. And he is a womanizer. Jaded and bored, he finds his wife dull and – each time he strays – his affairs even duller. But on holiday he sees a young woman, Anna Sergeyevna, with a small dog, and Gurov thinks that perhaps his time in Yalta could be made livelier. It’s another affair. She is seduced (she is also trapped in an unhappy marriage). Dmitry tells himself that like his other liaisons, this will soon be forgotten. But when he returns to Moscow and winter falls around him Dmitry cannot get Anna out of his mind. He is consumed with the thought of the fragile young woman. He travels to her home city, confronts her at a play she is attending and finds she shares his obsession. For the first time in his life, Dmitry Gurov is in love."
The creative team comprises Sergey Barkhin (set and costume designer), Tatiana Barkhina (original costume designer), Michael Chybowski (lighting designer), Leonid Desyatnikov (composer) and Jo Holcomb (dramaturg).
