News Landau, Lind, Booth, Drena, Meyer, Hicks and More Are Suzi Bass Award Winners The 2007-2008 Suzi Bass Awards, which honor the best in Atlanta's professional theatre scene, were presented Nov. 10 in The Egyptian Ballroom of the Fabulous Fox Theatre.

The Alliance Theatre was the big winner of the evening, taking home prizes for Outstanding Play (Tarell Alvin McCraney's In the Red and Brown Water) and Outstanding Musical (Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris). Atlanta's Tony-winning theatre also nabbed 11 other awards.

The ceremony also included the presentation of the Gene-Gabriel Moore Playwriting Award to Pearl Cleage for her drama A Song for Coretta; and the "Spirit of Suzi" Award to local actress, director and educator, Carol Mitchell-leon.

The Suzi Bass Awards were created, according to press notes, to "recognize and foster professional theatrical excellence in the Atlanta area, to honor the late and beloved actress Suzi Bass, and to provide a valuable regional and national marketing tool for individual theatres and for the Atlanta professional theatre community as a whole."
