TV veterans John Larroquette ("Night Court") and Joe Regalbuto ("Murphy Brown") are Oscar and Felix in Neil Simon's updated Odd Couple. Entitled Oscar and Felix, A New Look at the Odd Couple, the revised comedy classic plays Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse June 19-July 21.
Larroquette won four Emmy Awards as sleazy lawyer Dan Fielding on "Night Court." Other television credits include "The John Laroquette Show," an Emmy-winning stint on "The Practice" and the upcoming Larry Gelbert series "The Cosairs."
Regalbuto was Emmy-nominated for his role as Frank Fontana on "Murphy Brown." Joining him as Oscar and Felix's love interests are Maria Conchita Alonso (Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Vagina Monologues) and Alex Meneses.
In Oscar and Felix, The Odd Couple's plot, which centers on a slob and a neat-freak who move into the same apartment after they each get divorced, will stay the same. Simon told the Los Angeles Times March 26, however, that about 70 percent of the dialogue of The Odd Couple had been rewritten for the production.
Simon already revisted The Odd Couple once in 1986's female version. He is also the author of Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues, Broadway Bound and Lost in Yonkers. 45 Seconds from Broadway was his most recent Broadway entry. Completing the Oscar and Felix cast are Gregory Jbara (Chicago, Victor/Victoria) as Vinnie, Sam Lloyd as Roy, Ryan Cutrano (Samuel Beckett's All Strange Away) as Speed and Richard Portnow (The House of Blue Leaves, A Month of Sundays opposite Jason Robards) as Murray.
Actor-director Peter Bonerz directs. His credits include appearing in "Man on the Moon" and TV's "Three Sisters," while helming over 400 episodes of various sitcoms.
Tickets are $30-$46. The Geffen Playhouse is at 10886 Le Conte Avenue in Westwood, CA. The Geffen Playhouse is on the web at http://www.geffenplayhouse.com.
