Sculptor, artist and storyteller Brian Andres is the celebrated subject in M.Y.E. Theatre Company's world premiere of StoryPeople, the Collected Stories and Drawings of Brian Andres, running Aug. 20-Sept. 25 at the Gascon Center. Andres text adaptor Jane McEneaney also directs. StoryPeople is based on the art and text of a series of Andres sculptures, created from three to four foot tall recycled barn and fence wood shaped into a stylized human form. The wood is then combined with "found objects" like wire, painted in bright colors, hand-stamped with original stories and then given a face. McEneaney did not alter any of Andres' text, but instead blended different StoryPeople's stories together to form conversations and characters.

The StoryPeople are Tracy Birmingham, Douglas Brandl, Kary Cawley, Carol Clark, Susan Lubeck, Joseph S. Moser, Shano Palovich and Frank Spinelli.

The actors have been costumed by Ann Closs-Farley to resemble Andres' drawings. Rebecca Keyser created the stylized choreography that is meant to mimic the movement of children's games. Also on the design team are Dustin O'Neill (sets) and Leif Gantvoort (lighting).

A preview Aug. 19 is free. Thereafter, tickets are $15 and available by calling (310) 322-3142. The Gascon Center Theatre is located at 8737 Washington Boulevard.
