Spinning Into Butter exposes the cosmetic and sometimes destructive political correctness that erupts on a small Vermont college campus when an African-American student finds several racist notes pinned to his door. Gilman, the author of The Glory of Living, was commissioned by the Goodman for this play through a 1997 Scott McPherson Award.

The seven actor ensemble includes Robert Breuler (Steppenwolf's The Man Who Came to Dinner) as Dean Burton Strauss, Matt DeCaro (Northlight's The Old Neighborhood) as Mr. Meyers, Mary Beth Fisher (Night of the Iguana) as Sarah Daniels, Jim Leaming as Ross, Andrew Navarro as Patrick Chibas, Bruch Reed as Greg Sullivan and Mary Ann Thebus as Dean Catherine Kenney.

Linda Buchanan designed the sets, Birgit Rattenborg Wise the costumes, Robert Christen the lighting and Rob Milburn and Larry Schanker provide the sound design and musical composition.

Tickets are $27-$21 and available by calling the Goodman Theatre Box Office at (312) 443-3800. The Goodman Theatre is located at 200 South Columbus Drive. -- By Christine Ehren
