Last Chance to catch a send up of one-man cabaret shows -- the appropriately-titled One Man Show -- which opened Jan. 14 at Don't Tell Mama, a venue known for its solo acts by emerging, anonymous performers. Writer-actor Bill Lobley's show, through Jan. 28, 1999, focuses on Ryan McElroy, an actor who has just arrived in New York City from Lansing, MI, with "high hopes, big dreams and zero common sense," according to production notes.
Because he can't get a performance job, McElroy decides he's going to share his talent with the world in a solo act, and the evening is filled with new songs, loopy anecdotes and parody lyrics (by Lobley) to well known tunes.
Lobley is a character actor seen recently on the new Parkay margarine campaign, saying "better" instead of "butter." He has written sketch comedy and performed with Gotham City Improv and Gross National Product in Washington DC.
One Man Show is billed as "the perfect antidote to those who have seen one too many" club acts.
Mike Stafford produces, Linda Ames Key directs, original music is by Rusty Magee (pianist for The Irish...And How They Got That Way), musical direction is by Annie Lebeaux, lighting design is by Steve Caldwell and sound is by Matt Thrasher.
