Off-Off Broadway's Freestyle Repertory Company conclude their spring season this weekend, capping a series of four shows in rep, March 18 April 25: Theatresports, Spontaneous Broadway, KA-BAAM!!! and Hyperlinks.
Theatresports, the Freestyle's signature show, ran March 18-April 4. Via a set of competitive improv games, the company divided into two teams who made up stories, songs, poems and plays on the audience's suggestions. Selected judges and the audience chose the evening's champion. Christine Turner directed.
In Hyperlinks, the company devised a website while the audience chose where they want it to take them. Asaf Ronen directed.
Spontaneous Broadway (April 8-25) offers a brand new musical every night, taking it from backer's audition to opening night. In the first act, the company creates audience suggested songs from imaginary musicals, then lets the audience vote on their favorite. The winner becomes a full musical production in the second act. AJ Mass and Adam Felber direct.
KA-BAAM!!!, performed every Saturday night at 10:30 PM only, pits audience-suggested superheroes against each other as they meet, fight, sing and save the world. Maybe. Stephen Barrett directs. Tickets for Theatresports and Spontaneous Broadway are $15. KA-BAAM!!! and Hyperlinks are pay-what-you-can. Reservations can be made by calling (212) 642-8202. The Trilogy Theatre is located at 341 West 44th Street.
