The "Angel" national touring company of Rent will end its multi city tour Sept. 5 in San Francisco, where it played six months at the Golden Gate Theatre. The musical began performances there March 3 for a run originally set through Aug. 1.

Part of Rent's San Francisco run included the six-week return of original Mimi, Daphne Rubin-Vega. The Tony-nominated actress-singer joined the "Angel" touring company in Los Angeles.

Rubin-Vega left the Broadway cast of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning show to pursue other work, including shooting the movie thriller "Wild Things." She also co-wrote 10 of 13 songs for a Mercury Records album, "Souvenir."

Although the Angel company is shutting down and will not play dates after San Francisco, the other national tour -- the so-called "Benny" company -- continues with dates to 2000 and perhaps beyond, according to a spokesperson.

The "Angel" cast features Dean Balkwill (Roger), Trey Ellett (Mark), Sharon Leal (Mimi), Erin Keaney (Maureen), Kamilah Martin (Joanne), Shaun Earl (Angel), Mark Leroy Jackson (Collins) and Brian M. Love (Benny). The ensemble includes Christian Anderson, Courtney Corey, Kristoffer Cusick, Evan D'Angeles, Joshua Greene, Juan Carlos Gonzales, Jenny Maxwell, Alan Mingo, Jr., Lambert Moss, Erica Munoz, Matthew Murphy, Miguel Osborne, Cheri Smith, Robin S. Walker and Alicia Westelman. For ticket information ($69.50-$35), call (415) 512-7770.
