The Frog Prince, in a return production of the 78th Street Theatre Lab's 1997 revival of David Mamet's play, will close Aug. 1. Performances began July 11, officially opening July 18.

The show's 1997 revival was its first Off-Broadway production since its premiere as part of Ensemble Studio Theatre's annual one-act Marathon in 1985.

Though best known for such caustic examinations of male bonding as American Buffalo, Glengarry Glen Ross and Sexual Perversity In Chicago, Mamet stayed G-rated for this adaptation of the classic children's fable, about an arrogant prince who gets turned into a frog after denying a peasant woman a simple gift.

Staged by 78th Street Theatre Lab artistic director Eric Nightengale (of The Packwood Papers), The Frog Prince will again feature 1997 castmembers Karen Wright and Toby Wherry (the Frog Prince), alongside newcomers Jean Taylor and E. Roger Mitchell. Si Joong Yoon has designed the set, So Young Kim the costumes, with lighting by Tyler Micoleau. Part of the set design will be paper flowers children in the audience get to color in before showtime.

The Frog Prince also features music by The Decibelles, under the musical direction of David Barnes. Mamet's other works include Speed-the-Plow, The Cryptogram and Edmond.

For tickets ($9 adults/$7 children 12 and under) and information call (212) 873-9050. All performances are on Sundays at 1 and 2:30 PM.
