The Submission (Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre). MCC Theater presents the world premiere of Jeff Talbott's play about a gay white playwright who authors an acclaimed drama about an African American family under a nom de plume. When he hires an African American actress to assume the identity of the playwright, he loses control of his work, as well as his life and is forced to confront his own racism. Chad Kimball in Memphis (On Broadway at the Shubert Theatre). Kimball received a 2010 Tony Award nomination for creating the role of white DJ Huey Calhoun in the 1950's-set Tony Award-winning rock musical about an interracial love affair by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan.
