Chimichangas and Zoloft (Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company/Stage 2). Atlantic Theater Company's world-premiere production of Fernanda Coppel's play Chimichangas and Zoloft features Teddy Cañez, Zabryna Guevara, Alfredo Narciso, Xochitl Romero and Carmen Zilles. Here's how ATC bills the play: "Suffering from a profound sense of disappointment after her 40th birthday, Sonia (Guevara) flees her family and goes on a binge of prescription Zoloft and greasy chimichangas. Sonia's rebellious daughter Jackie (Zilles) and her best friend Penelope (Romero) hatch a plan to lure Sonia back home, while their fathers (Cañez, Narciso) struggle with a secret association of their own. This irreverent story examines the search for happiness and the mysteries of sexuality through the eyes of two brazen teenagers." Visit AtlanticTheater.org. Food and Fadwa (Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop). Here's how Food and Fadwa is described: "Meet Fadwa Faranesh, an unmarried, 30-something Palestinian woman living in Bethlehem in the politically volatile West Bank. Known for her delectable cooking and deep-seated sense of duty to her family and aging father, our kitchen maven insists on continuing the preparations for the wedding of her younger sister despite constraints of daily life under occupation. In Food and Fadwa politics blend with family tensions to create a sometimes humorous and sometimes heartbreaking meal of a play that melds the fight a Palestinian family wages to hold onto its traditional culture with its need to celebrate love, joy, and hope." Tony Award nominee Arian Moayed is among the cast. Visit NYTW.org.
Medieval Play (Off-Broadway at The Pershing Square Signature Center / Irene Diamond Stage). Signature bills Medieval Play this way: "Two French mercenary knights set out on a quest for relative moral redemption against the classic comic background of late 14th-century ecclesiastical politics. A story of friendship, love, noble feats of arms, indiscriminate brutality, the progressive refinement of medieval table manners and the general decline of the chivalric ideal at the onset of the Great Papal Schism of 1378."
