Zelda at the Oasis (Off-Broadway at St. Luke's Theatre). Zelda at the Oasis, a new play about Zelda Fitzgerald, by P. H. Lin, features Edwin Cahill and Gardner Reed under the direction of Andy Sandberg. "Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, wife of legendary American novelist, F. Scott Fitzgerald, wants nothing more than to be recognized as an artist in her own right," according to press notes. "Two things stand in her way: a growing mental instability and the overbearing shadow of her husband. On this magical night in the 1930s, Zelda discovers The Club Oasis, a New York City bar where she has escaped to drink alone…until a unique and unexpected friendship is forged with an aspiring musician who plays piano and tends bar at the Oasis. Vivid and haunting memories are triggered as Zelda transforms the Bar Man into those from her past who have shaped her own self-image. The Jammer (Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company's Atlantic Stage 2). The New York City premiere of Rolin Jones' The Jammer, his 1950s-set play about roller derby, features Patch Darragh, Dan Domingues, Christopher Jackson, Billy Eugene Jones, Keira Naughton, Kate Rigg, Jeanine Serralles, Greg Stuhr and Todd Weeks. Here's how Atlantic bills the play: "In this wild theatrical adventure about New York in the late 1950s, The Jammer plunges into the hard-boiled, bizarre world of professional roller derby. Jack Lovington (Darragh), a lovelorn Brooklynite, needs to find himself and stake a claim in the world. When he joins up with the rough and tumble Brooklyn Brown Devils, little does Jack know that his life is about to be turned completely upside down and that he's about to find himself on a most unexpected roller coaster ride. Two by Two (Off-Broadway at the York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's). Two by Two, the season opener of the Winter 2013 Musicals in Mufti Series at The York Theatre Company, is the Richard Rodgers-Martin Charnin-Peter Stone musical of the Biblical Noah's Ark tale. Tony winner Jason Alexander and four-time Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh star in the five performances offered Feb. 15-17. "The story of Noah and the Ark is a musical adaptation of Clifford Odets' play The Flowering Peach and is retold with Noah and his family characterized in modern Jewish vernacular," according to Off-Broadway's York. "It seems that the building of the ark was only the first of Noah's many daunting challenges in a journey that wasn't always smooth sailing. By turns inspirational and hilarious, it's good fun from The Good Book and when the land has dried, man and beast alike are invited to go forth and prosper in a bright New World."
