News Last Schwartz Playwright Tackles Gulf War in New Play, Gulf of Westchester Florida Stage will present the world premiere of Deborah Zoe Laufer's current-events-rich play, The Gulf of Westchester, as the final show of its 2003-04 season.

Laufer gained praise from audiences and critics for her play, The Last Schwartz, seen at Florida Stage in 2002-03. It was nominated for the 2003 Carbonell Award. The new play runs May 7 to June 13, 2004.

"The Gulf of Westchester tells the story of five old friends whose Saturday ritual revolves around the TV," according to the announcement. "The game and the Gulf War are equally entertaining as they merrily debate the merits of 'freedom fries' and duct tape. Then, one Saturday, their high school hero finally returns from the first Gulf War — and their routine is pre-empted by reality."
