Henry V finishes his reign at the Old Globe's Lowell Davies Festival Theatre Aug. 12. The Shakespeare history began July 2 with an opening July 8. The San Diego venue's associate artist Dakin Matthews directs. Set after Shakespeare's Henry IV Parts I and II, Henry V finds young Prince Hal all grown up and distanced from Falstaff and the other playmates of his reckless youth. Instead of acting the irresponsible child he once was, Henry becomes a great leader, laying claim to and winning lands in France. Throughout the epic battles, however, the play also illustrates the pains and losses of war. Henry V was made into two famous films: Laurence Olivier's in 1944 and Kenneth Branagh's in 1989.

Michael Eric Strickland (last seen at the theatre in the 1997 Dracula) is Henry V. Also in the cast are Old Globe associate artists Kandis Chappell (Chorus/Quickly/Alice/Ely/Mountjoy), Don Lee Sparks (Bardolph) and Jonthan McMurtry (Chorus/King of France/Erpingham/Canterbury), plus Gigi Bermingham (Catherine of France), Bix Bettwy (Boy), Mark Capri (Chorus/Harfleur/Exeter), J. Michael Flynn (Cambridge/Constable), Amanda Henkel (Queen of France), Ben Hopkin (Bourbon/Sir Thomas Grey), Hal Landon, Jr. (Nym), Henri Lubatti (Dauphin/Scrope), Ted Matthews (Duke of York), Paul Vincent O'Connor (Westmoreland), Tom Ramirez (Pistol), Norman Snow (Fluellen), Dierk Torsek (Gower) and Scott Wood (Duke of Bedford).

Designing Henry V are Peter Maradudin (lighting), Ralph Funicello (sets), Lewis Brown (costumes) and Jeff Ladman (sound). Steve Rankin is the fight choreographer.

Tickets are $23-$42. The Old Globe is located in Balboa Park. For reservations, call (619) 239-2255. The Old Globe is on the web at http://www/oldglobe.org.
