The event is the culmination of a year-long school program that invited high school students to pen a ten-minute one-act play based on the themes from the Broadway musical Billy Elliot. Six plays, out of 500 submissions, have been selected for the 7:30 PM presentation. Madeline Hendricks' Driver's Education was selected as the winning entry in the Fidelity FutureStage Playwrighting Contest, with finalists including Path to the Throne by Steven Paul; Phoenix Kills the Sunset by Tiffany Blake; The Baby Project by Tanai Pirela; Break-Down by Keren Alshanetskey; and Culpa by Vivienne Dayao.
Each of the six presented plays will be published in a collection by Samuel French. The winning play was selected by a team including Billy Elliot book writer Lee Hall, producer Jon Finn, resident director B.T. McNicholl, Tony nominee Gregory Jbara and FutureStage Finale director Michael Bush.
