A post on Goodspeed's official Facebook page reads, "What do Laura Benanti, Rob McClure and Goodspeed have in common? Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn – because next week this talented duo, along with several others will be in NYC for the very first invitation-only reading of this brand new musical based on the Universal Pictures classic! They will be performing writers Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge’s take on the heartwarming tale featuring the beloved music & lyrics by Irving Berlin. Check back next week for more from inside the studio."
The musical is scheduled to run Sep. 19-Nov. 30 at the Tony Award-winning Goodspeed Musicals in East Haddam, CT.
Here's how Goodspeed bills the world premiere: "Check into the tuneful world-premiere musical about a Connecticut farmhouse transformed into a jubilant nightspot — but only on holidays. From Valentine's Day to the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving to Christmas, expect a cornucopia of hit songs by Irving Berlin in a dance-dizzy romance based on the classic film that first starred Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby. Raise a glass of cheer to 'Happy Holiday,' 'Easter Parade,' 'Be Careful, It's My Heart' and more of the world's greatest show tunes."
Music and lyrics are by Irving Berlin with a book by Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge.
Greenberg will also direct, and the musical will be produced in association with Universal Stage Productions and by arrangement with The Irving Berlin Music Company.
