News Lauren Kennedy Will Be Evita for North Carolina Theatre; Principal Casting Announced Lauren Kennedy will show off her star quality as controversial political figure Eva Peron in the North Carolina Theatre's upcoming production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Evita Oct. 22-30 at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

Kennedy, who has been seen on Broadway in Sunset Boulevard, Spamalot and Side Show, previously played the role at Casa Mañana in Ft. Worth, TX. She will be joined in the upcoming production by Ray Walker (Les Miserables) as Che, Jonathan Hammond (Ragtime, Light in the Piazza) as Peron, Raleigh native English Bernhardt as The Mistress and Fabio Monteiro (Pioneer Theatre Company’s Rent) as Magaldi.

Tito Hernandez directs and choreographs.

Evita, which premiered as a two-LP recording starring Julie Covington (Eva) and Colm Wilkinson (Che), features a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics). Hal Prince staged both the original London and New York productions of the musical, which made stars of Elaine Paige (in London) and Mandy Patinkin and Patti LuPone (on Broadway). The score features such tunes as "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Buenos Aires," "A New Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall," "I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You" and "Rainbow High." Madonna, Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Pryce starred in the film version. Elena Roger and Ricky Martin will star in the forthcoming Broadway revival.
