Lauria replaces John Cullum, who was originally announced for the production, which will co-star Jack Klugman. Hairspray's Liz Larsen has also joined the company of the Jeffrey Sweet play, set to begin performances Nov. 14 and play through Dec. 17. James Glossman directs.
In a statement George Street Artistic Director David Saint said, "This whole process has come full circle — Dan Lauria first brought Jack Klugman to George Street last season. When John Cullum was offered a Broadway show and had to withdraw, it was Jack who suggested Dan to replace him. We are always thrilled to have Dan at the Playhouse, and coupled with the wonderful Liz Larsen whom I adore, I believe we have a first-rate cast." Klugman added, "Dan Lauria is just sensational. I worked with Dan before and he just knocked me out. He is a wonderful person and a wonderful actor. I am so looking forward to working with him again."
Dan Lauria has previously appeared at the George Street Playhouse in Inspecting Carol and The Winning Streak. His other theatrical credits include The Stone Carver, Hearts, The Price, Men with Suits, The Guys, Ears on a Beatle and Leading Ladies.
Liz Larsen received Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critic Circle Award nominations for her work in The Most Happy Fella and has also appeared on Broadway in Hairspray, The Smell of the Kill, The Rocky Horror Show, Damn Yankees, Fiddler on the Roof and Starmites.
The Value of Names casts Klugman as "a retired comic whose career was derailed by the McCarthy-era blacklist. His daughter, an actress and working on a project when her director falls ill and leaves the project. Taking his place is the man who betrayed him to the House UnAmerican Activities Committee – and his former best friend. These circumstances converge to give the two men the opportunity to confront each other — face-to-face." George Street Playhouse is located at 9 Livingston Avenue in New Brunswick, NJ.
