Recent reports by the League of American Theatres and Producers show that the attendance figures and gross receipts for Broadway's current summer season reflect the largest percentage of change in any single June -July period in the last five years. Compared to June-July of 1999, Broadway gross receipts are up almost 20 percent, the highest increase since June-July 1992. Back then, the League reports, the percentage of change from 1991 was measured with an increase of close to 35 percent.

In terms of attendance figures, the period of June-July 2000 showed an increase as well, with a 12 percent change from the same time in 1999. The summer 2000 figures are the highest in four years; a 14 percent increase was reported in 1995 and a 33 percent increase in 1992.
