Tony-winning actor Len Cariou stars in Paramour, a new musical bowing at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, CA, Sept. 26. The Howard Marren-Joe Masteroff tuner started previews Sept. 20 and runs though Oct. 31. Paramour is based on Jean Anouilh's The Waltz of the Toreadors and concerns a lecherous general (Cariou) whose amorous pursuits catch up to him.

Masteroff, who wrote the book and lyrics, was librettist on such musicals as She Loves Me and Cabaret. Marren has composed the shows as What About Luv? and Portrait of Jennie.

Cariou is famous for his portrayal of the bloodthirsty title character in Sweeney Todd. Other notable credits include the original productions of A Little Night Music and Applause and the Off- Broadway shows Papa, Mountain and Up from Paradise.

The cast also includes Melissa Hart (Candide, Georgy), Amanda Naughton (The Secret Garden), Joel Carlton, David Pursley, Danielle Ferland, Stacey Lynn Brass, and John Seidman. Joseph Hardy, who received a Tony Award for his work on Child's Play, directs.
