News Les Arts Florissants' Atys Will Make BAM Return in September The Brooklyn Academy of Music has announced the return of the Jean-Baptiste Lully baroque opera Atys, which will be staged in September as part of the institution's sesquicentennial.

First staged at BAM in 1989, and seen in a 1992 encore, Atys will be presented by Les Arts Florissants, under the direction of Jean-Marie Villégier and with musical direction by William Christie. The opulent recreation of the 300-year-old work will run Sept. 18-24 at the Gilman Opera House.

The co-production between Opéra Comique, BAM, Théâtre de Caen, Opéra National de Bordeaux and Les Arts Florissants will feature Ed Lyon (Atys), Anna Reinhold (Cybèle), Emmanuelle de Negri (Sangaride), Marc Mauillon (Idas), Sophie Daneman (Doris), Paul Agnew (Le Sommeil) and Cyril Auvity (Morphée), with Les Arts Florissants choir and orchestra.

BAM will also welcome Christie's vocal ensemble Le Jardin des Voix, which will perform semi-staged selections from Lully's operas and ballets, as well as pieces by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Michel Lambert.

Additional BAM highlights include the Bridge Project production of Richard III starring Kevin Spacey (January 2012); and the Philip Glass and Robert Wilson opera Einstein on the Beach (fall 2012).
